Nato nel 1984, Mattia Petrilli si diploma giovanissimo presso il Conservatorio della sua citta’, Como. Successivamente si perfeziona con János Bálint presso l’Hochschule für Musik di Detmold, e con Jacques Zoon presso il Conservatorio Superiore di Ginevra, ottenendo il prestigioso “Diplome de Soliste”. Si perfeziona anche con Emmanuel Pahud e Aurele Nicolet. Dal 2005 e’ membro dell’Orchestra Mozart di Claudio Abbado, che lo chiama anche a ricoprire il ruolo di primo flauto nella Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester e a suonare con l’Orchestra del Festival di Lucerna. Dal 2008 collabora come primo flauto con la London Philharmonic Orchestra, diretta da Vladimir Jurowski, e con l’Orchestra Symphonica d’Italia (ex Toscanini), diretta da Lorin Maazel. Si esibisce da solista con l’Orchestra Sinfonica Verdi di Milano e la Detmolder Kammerorchester. Intensa l’attività cameristica: nel 2001 esordisce con l’Überbrettl-Ensemble, forma un duo con il pianista Pierpaolo Maurizzi, e nel 2005 fonda il quintetto a fiati Papageno insieme a musicisti incontrati in Orchestra Mozart e Gmjo. Accanto all’attivita’ artistica, partecipa attivamente a progetti sociali e di musico-terapia, come il Progetto Tamino a Bologna, Al Kamandjati (organizzazione non governativa con sede a Ramallah, che promuove la formazione musicale tra i giovani e i bambini palestinesi), e la Human Rights Orchestra – musicisti per i diritti umani.
Born in 1984, Mattia Petrilli began to play the flute at the Conservatory of his city, Como. He continued advanced training with János Bálint at the “Hochschule Für Musik” in Detmold, and with Jacques Zoon at the Conservatoire Superieure in Geneve. He also studied with Emmanuel Pahud and Aurèle Nicolet. Since 2005 he is a member of the Mozart Orchestra in Bologna, formed by musicians of international fame, founded and conducted by Claudio Abbado. Maestro Abbado has invited him from 2006 as first flute in the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra (concerts in Europe and South America), and to play with the Lucerne Festival Orchestra (concerts in Lucerne and Tokyo). Since 2008 he plays as Principal Flute with the London Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Vladimir Jurowski, with concerts in the Royal Festival Hall and Royal Albert Hall, but also in Germany, Belgium and Luxembourg. He is also the Principal Flute of the Orchestra Symphonica d’Italia (ex Toscanini), conducted by Lorin Maazel. As a soloist, he performed with the Detmolder Kammerorchester, and the Milano Symphony Orchestra “G.Verdi”. His chamber music activity is intense: in 2001 he debuted with the Uberbrettl-Ensemble, and he performs in duo with the pianist Pierpaolo Maurizzi. He is a founding member of the Woodwinds Quintet Papageno, formed by musicians from the Mozart Orchestra and the GMJO. He also takes part in music/social projects, like “Progetto Tamino” in Bologna, Al Kamandjati (no profit organization in Ramallah), and “Human Rights Orchestra – musicians for the human rights”.
